Today I spent part of my day with Akemi at Kozo studio cleaning / sorting type and talking about letterpress things. I learned a bunch of things. One of the things is that damaged lead type gets place in the “hell box”. A hell box is a universal name where damaged type gets placed to later be melted down and reused.

Akemi also showed me two new photopolymer plates she got from an acquaintance of hers. He sells the photopolymer plate makers that cost a lot less the the regular ones and the plates look awesome! ( The machine cost $3000 instead of $10000 and up ) One day I hope to own one of those but not anytime soon.I have hope now.

Another awesome thing she told me was to use industrial magnets instead of locking your furniture in with quoins. She is brilliant! I was telling her that the line-o-scribe that I have is so big that getting small things in there is almost impossible. I can’t wait to try this now.

I really enjoyed my first visit with Akemi and look forward to more learning.

As for my toad, I was really close to not working on it today cause it’s been a busy day but I did anyways. I went back and revisited the geometry and added a bit. So that mean I had to re-do the little UV mapping I did. I’m now about as far as I was yesterday with my UV maps but with more geometry. It didn’t help that Maya kept messing up and even after the reboot the rendering doesn’t work. I’m not going to worry about that now, but soon Maya…. soon -____-

Also below this post is the link to Kozo Studio. Check out Akemi’s workshops, shes a great teacher. :)
